I've decided to do a Johnny Farnham. I'm reinstating this blog and positive it'll be better than ever.

While I enjoyed my time away from brainstorming ideas and feeling the pressure to post every week, I've missed getting creative with my writing and having a space to share my life. These past few months have been a personal rollercoaster and I'm excited to get back to something I love. A huge shout out to the special people who encouraged me to start writing again, your words of support haven't gone unnoticed. THANK YOU!

Where I'm Working

For right now I'm still working at the Sunshine Coast Council. My paid internship finished in February but they asked me to stay on and move into a slightly different role. I'm now working on an internal communications strategy which involves plenty of video production, in-house news and a bunch of other research. I'm really loving this new position and am grateful to the team for seeing this potential in me.

I've also connected with many industry professionals and have met some really great career mentors. If you would like a blog post about how I've learnt to professionally put myself out there please comment on this post.

I'm Still Hungry for Broadcast

I've been fortunate to spend time with both Seven and Nine News Sunshine Coast. I did a couple of days on the road with Nine and had a week in Seven's Maroochydore newsroom. These internships came at a critical time and confirmed I'm still really passionate about broadcast journalism. Getting to pitch ideas, interview talent and write stories gave me an extra boost to push forward and pursue a reporting career. I'm now working on my 'broadcast voice' and doing absolutely everything I can to land my dream journo job.

I must admit it's been hard seeing my fellow uni friends secure regional employment and immerse themselves in the journalism game. While I know just how hard they've worked, I'm disappointed I haven't been given the same opportunities. My self confidence has taken quite the knock and I've had to become an expert in picking myself up. It's difficult to know how hard I've worked and fail to see the outcomes. I realise I've only been out of uni for a few months and have plenty of time to start my career but I've never been too good at patience. Rest assured I'm a big believer in things happening for a reason and am hopeful things will fall into place.

My Hopes for the Blog

I've complied a list of topics, ideas, personal stories and heartfelt issues I plan to write about. You'll hear my personality shine and hopefully have a bit of a laugh along the way. If there is something you would like to hear please let me know! Facebook me, send me an email (ashleighdwan@gmail.com) or comment on this post. I really want to create a conversation and would love your thoughts on anything I talk about.

Until next time,

Ash x
