ANZAC

Anzac Day provides a special occasion to reflect and remember the courageous servicemen and women who served our country in Gallipoli. It's also a time to pause and pay tribute to those who have fought in all conflicts and to think of our current soldiers.

This day is a little different for everyone but what unities our country on the 25th of April is the idea of mateship. When I think back to primary school and first hearing about this day, the one thing that stood out for me was the bond our Australian and New Zealand soldiers had. It's what got them through the tough conditions and kept them fighting for our freedom.

I can't say I have any direct link to anyone that gave their life to fight for us, not that I know of anyway. However, my Grandpa did his national service and I know there are a few stories there. This Anzac day I was also told of my great great uncle and one of his courageous military efforts. As the story goes he was in a bomber and the missiles wouldn't deploy so he climbed out on the planes wing and manually released them. What a legend! That is the true Australian spirit.

I wholeheartedly take my hat off to my school friends who have joined the armed forces. You are all so brave. I couldn't imagine training to fight on the front lines. Each of you should be so proud of yourselves and all you have achieved in your respective careers thus far. Keep up the amazing work and please stay safe in our crazy world.
