Struggling up Mt Beerburrum always gives me perspective and time to think.
Regardless of whether I am by myself or alongside Cait (one of my oldest friends and fellow mountain enthusiast), I tend to discover more about myself and what I want to achieve whilst completely out of breath and dripping in sweat.
Last week Cait and I had a conversation about bettering ourselves and the idea of saying yes. In fact, I think I'm going to have to add this to my 2017 New Year's Resolutions.
The thing is I am someone that likes my comfort zone and doing things happily inside it. However, aiming to secure a job within the journalism industry means completely going against that. As much as I like staying in and catching up with people I already have a connection with, I know I need to step outside my little circle and experience different things.
As I write this post I have just RSVP'ed to a Bachelorette weekend away in Byron Bay. I will know a total of one person, that being the bride-to-be. If I had of been asked to go even 12 months ago I probably would have said no. However, in a bid to meet new people and have new worldly experiences, I have convinced myself that there is no way I can't be there.
This year I want to become that person that says yes to the scary stuff. I want to be able to meet new people from new backgrounds and learn more. I want to give myself the opportunity to grow as a person and become comfortable with doing things outside of my control. This year is going to my year to say yes.
