My Fitness Journey

For the last two and a half months I have been focusing on getting my health and fitness back on track. I knew I had put it on the back burner and felt like it was the right time to do something for myself.

I am lucky to have known Alicia from Alicia Evans Personal Training for most of my life and felt like she was the right person to help me reach my goals.

After listing several things I hoped to achieve by summer I realised the main thing I wanted to get out of this was to be happy when I saw my reflection in the mirror. I wanted to lose a dress size, tone my arms, tummy and thighs but most importantly feel better about myself.

From the very first chat I had with Alicia I realised this journey was about more than just a few exercise sessions a week. I had to change my outlook on food and start to fuel my body. I knew it was going to be hard but I was super determined to do the very best I could.

In just 10 weeks I learnt so much food and how it can affect my body. I now eat a proper breakfast every single day, something I never thought I would be able to do. I am now eating more than ever before but making the right choices. My metabolism has finally kicked in and I am hungry all the time! I have changed from loving white bread and mashed potato to needing wholemeal toast and sweet potato. I have actually really enjoyed a little experimenting in the kitchen, again not something I thought I would be doing.

I am also finally drinking enough water and can tell when my body needs hydrating.

In terms of exercise I went from boxing twice a week to a jam packed 5-6 day workout routine with cardio sessions at my local park, body weight workouts, 20km bike rides, sweaty walks up Mt Beerburrum and my early Thursday morning PT's. I loved that each week brought new challenges and I could start to see an increase into my fitness level. At the start I was struggling with fast walks and multiple squats but I’m now able to run, squat with weights and have managed to knock seven minutes off my time up the mountain.

Alicia helped me to see the bigger picture. Exercising isn’t just about reaching a goal or getting to a certain size, it’s about how you look after yourself and changing your lifestyle habits. It’s not about being on a diet but making better choices.

After seeing my before and after pictures I am super proud of the efforts I have made over the past two and a half months. Being at Uni full time, having two part time jobs and trying to launch my own career meant structuring a pretty strict schedule but I am so happy I stuck with it.

Overall I lost 4kg's and 29.8cm's. From my first fitness test to my last I managed an extra five hundred metres in five minutes on the bike, went from 25 shallow push ups to 37 decent ones in one minute and doubled my wall sit.

Alicia’s creative workouts, positivity and happy nature really helped me to get the very best out of this custom designed challenge. I am so thankful for the hours she has put in to ensure I have seen my own success.

I know I could not have worked any harder if I tried, I gave everything I could to this challenge over the last 10 weeks. Whilst I still have more fitness goals for the future I am going to enjoy this festive season and get back into it in the new year.
