The Power of Makeup

It occurred to me that I created this website for both of my interests, journalism and makeup. However, as my love for journalism and the idea of launching my career skyrocketed, I have failed to acknowledge the beauty world.

I am whole-heartedly an avid YouTube subscriber. I'm not embarrassed to admit my down time involves hours of pointless prank videos and beloved Q&A's. In fact, my passion for makeup started with tutorials from some of YouTube's very best. I sit for hours, soaking up every last bit of footage on how to blend eye shadow, what brushes work best for my skin and when to apply false lashes. Forget asking Mum, I learn it all online.

Makeup is now one of my biggest passions. I love that I can create different looks simply because I angle a brush differently or blend something using another colour. I love that I can paint my face and create something I am proud of when I look in the mirror. I have never been arty but makeup allows a level of creativity.

Some people wonder how I can cake layers of cosmetics on my skin, but I assure you, if you know how to do it right it won't feel like that. Others believe it's all trivial and superficial but I believe in enhancing your favourite features and slipping on that extra layer of confidence.

Makeup, for me anyway, is an escape. The whole process is super fun and very relaxing. From picking the base to adding the final touch of highlighter, I am at ease with it all. It's something that can improve my mood and makes me feel that little bit more put together, I don't see how that should ever be classed as a bad thing.

The power of makeup is that you can put your favourite version of yourself first. Sadly, we still judge the book by its cover but if wearing even the smallest amount of tinted moisturiser makes you feel a little more yourself I am more than happy to embrace it.
